Mr. Dodo recalls the dodo from Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventure in Wonderland. Skye’s reinterpretation has the dodo statuesque and noble with it’s signature beak.
As the urban legend goes, Lewis Carroll included the dodo representing himself as one who stammerred introducing himself as Charles Do-do-dgson.
Imagery
Mr. Dodo grips a toy kitty as his symbol of safety and security perhaps reminding us of the popularity of cat videos in our pop culture today.
Skye rendered Mr. Dodo as a more “fit” dodo, eliminating the plumpness of a traditional dodo bird which along with it’s flightlessness led to its extinction.
Skye shows a more dapper dodo with jacket, bowtie, and a layered, colorful look. Charles Dodgson was an academic and professor. For that reason the dodo wears a vest sweater and a navy blazer.
Frame
This tabernacle frame is stylized with modern touches using a flatten crown highlighted with gold trim
The crown represents power and the person who controls wonderland.
Since Charles was the author he is omnipotent over his own story and the crown rests above his true identity in the frame.
Skye surrounds red-capped mushrooms with her signature flowers. The mushrooms symbolizing surreal imagery.
