The Mushroom Army is part of Skye’s FridaLand series. In this mash-up of pop-culture, Skye re-imagines a young Frida in the land of Alice’s Wonderland with the characters from Edward Lear’s poem, the Owl and the Pussy-Cat.
Here, the pussy-cat leads the heroes of the mushroom army who aid in the growth of the Bong tree forest.
Imagery
The Pussy-Cat appears with its mushroom cap helmet and tends to a baby mushroom in her arms.
The Mushroom Army march in tow armed with flowers of power and signature pink boots.
A newly sprouting Bong tree marks the center of the piece with the proud Mushroom Army satisfied for another job well done.
Frame
The frame is a modernized version of a tabernacle frame inspired by fellow artist, John Walker.
It was hand-built and painted in Skye’s studio using various saws, glues, and other hardware.
It was hand painted with some hand sculpted pieces.
On top sits the Mushroom Army badge that all members recognize and wear.
